Historically, hops are widely recognised for their use in beer but more recently have been highly sought after for their beautiful decorative qualities. At Essentially Hops we have over 50 years of growing experience and over 20 years of selling decorative hop garlands by mail order and we pride ourselves on this special product. We now grow our hops exclusively for decoration, ensuring the quality is the best we can achieve. Hops can be frustrating to handle, but look fabulous on beams, above cupboards and dressers and over fireplaces and windows. They are extremely popular at wedding venues. If you have not handled hops before please telephone 01227 830666 for advice. Hop garlands are approximately 8-10 feet long and 8-14 inches wide.

All of our hop plants are commercial varieties grown for brewing, except for GOLDEN TASSELLS. They are English produced and certified material from virus tested stock.

Each variety differs slightly in colour, shape & size, and aroma & alpha acid content (which is important for brewers). All the varieties produce the beautiful lime green flower cone late summer in the UK and is an attractive climbing addition to any garden. The best time to plant hops is during the winter months when the plant is dormant, but please be aware, hops need cold conditions in the winter, particularly Goldings and Bramling Cross otherwise they will not grow, so we will not replace or refund overseas orders that do not thrive.
