This perennial climbing plant begins its growth in April and flowers in late August. We have a wide selection of varieties available for delivery from December each year. Each hop rhyzome wiil be delivered as a bare root, wrapped in damp moss ready to plant. Best planted in the winter before spring growth, during the summer months we sell out and start taking orders for winter delivery. The cost is £7.95 for most varieties, £8.95 for Prima Donna, Cascade & Golden Tassels.

We sell traditional older varieties such as; FUGGLE - the oldest traditional, bitter making variety. The flowers are large and cone shaped. COBB - an E.K. Golding variety with smaller flowers, but is heavy cropping. REDSELLS EASTWELL, EARLY BIRD & BRAMLING CROSS - are other East Kent Golding varieties of similar type to Cobbs. NORTHDOWN - has a pleasant aroma well suited to heavier beers. W.G.V (Whitbread Golding Variety) - has the characteristics of both Goldings & Fuggles. OMEGA - is a main crop.

Newer varieties (more multi purpose brewing varieties which are high aroma; high alpha acid) include PHEONIX - the flowers are large and have a high pollen content, early flowering and evenly cropped, suitable for making traditional bitter and one of the most attractive looking varieties. TARGET, YEOMAN - both similar to Challenger and good bittering hops. CHALLENGER - the flowers are small and abundant, a dual purpose suitable for making a wide range of beers . PROGRESS -smilar to Fuggle with more disease resistance.

Lastly we have PRIMA DONNA - a more modern dwarf variety of hop grown commercially for brewing. (Otherwise known as FIRST GOLD), CASCADE - an american commercial brewing variety, GOLDEN TASSELS - a dwarf variety grown for decorative purposes because of its pale yellow leaves.
